Artist Statement
As
a Metalsmith and designer, I actively combine precious metals,
rubber, glass beads and plastics which create a contemporary
dynamic interplay. I work methodically, reanalyzing formal
elements and changing materials. In this way I’m continuously
falling upon new discoveries.
Through the process of
making, a reoccurring theme of fluid motion is seen in both my
water related works and those with exaggerated sweeping curves.
In addition, I feel that by including movable elements within
the work, a dialogue between the piece and the wearer comes
alive. This dialogue resonates with me for its sense of play and
personal connection.
Conceptually, my focus remains to unite two often opposing parts
in my life: the industrial world with the natural world. From
these perspectives I arrive at a visual vocabulary that
references an array of engineered materials such as piping,
gears, tanks, switchboards, or car parts uniting with those from
nature such as leaves, animal shells, grasses and produce. These
elements are combined to build an often metaphorical and
expressive design. I hope you enjoy visiting the site. Please
feel free to send any questions or comments regarding my work as
I always take pleasure in receiving these.
